Curve Analogies

Overview

Curve Analogies treats line style as something that can be learned from examples rather than programmed as a fixed collection of drawing rules. A user sketches a two-dimensional curve; the system builds a statistical model of that example and uses it either to synthesize new curves in the same style or to restyle an existing curve. Position constraints let the user preserve selected parts of the target shape.

The examples showed that the method could reproduce varied hand-drawn line qualities while retaining control over the resulting geometry. Its scope was deliberately narrow: it modeled two-dimensional curves, and the output depended on whether the supplied example adequately represented the desired style.
